Insider Threat Assessment & Investigation
An insider concern may involve deliberate misconduct, compromised access or an ordinary process failure. Bureau Securitas helps clients examine the evidence and the controls around sensitive people, information and assets, using its joint venture and specialist partners where needed.

Triage the concern carefully
An unexplained loss, unusual access, information reaching a competitor or a report from a colleague can justify a review. The first step is to establish the facts available, the potential consequences and any immediate need to preserve records or restrict an exposure.
The brief should identify who is authorised to commission work, the roles of security, HR and legal advisers, and the purpose of each enquiry. Suspicion should not be treated as an established finding.
Examine evidence and controls
An assignment can combine background enquiries, examination of supplied records, interviews by appropriate specialists, digital forensic support and a review of access or contractor arrangements. The methods depend on the issue and the authority available.
The assessment also considers whether existing procedures create avoidable opportunities for loss or disclosure. A control weakness can matter even when the evidence does not establish individual wrongdoing.
Use tools in their proper role
Specialist analytical or screening tools may help organise enquiries, subject to an agreed purpose, suitability and appropriate safeguards. No analytical score or automated flag should be presented as proof of deception or misconduct.
The output distinguishes evidence, unresolved concerns and practical recommendations. Decisions affecting an employee, contractor or business partner remain with the authorised client and its advisers, using the relevant process and wider evidence.
What the engagement can deliver
The proposal confirms the outputs for your assignment. Depending on scope, these can include:
- An initial concern assessment and agreed investigation scope
- A sourced account of findings and outstanding questions
- A review of material access or process weaknesses where commissioned
- Recommendations for further enquiry and proportionate control improvements
Questions about insider threat assessment & investigation
Does an insider investigation assume wrongdoing?
No. The purpose is to examine a concern objectively. A review may identify misconduct, another explanation, insufficient evidence or a process weakness.
Can you examine a concern involving a contractor?
Yes. The scope can include contractors or partners as well as employees, with the necessary authority and access arrangements.
Do screening tools establish whether someone is lying?
No. A tool or indicator should not be treated as a finding of deception or wrongdoing. Conclusions require evidence, context and qualified human judgement.
